Typical solicitor's fees for selling a property have been historically 1% of the sale price plus VAT but due to the difficult market conditions, you should be able to obtain a discount. Fees for buying a new property should be similar.

There are other fixed costs such as Land Registry fees and possibly Stamp Duty so we recommend you obtain a quote immediately so you are aware of what the total cost will be.
